Click-Through Rate (CTR)
The percentage of people who see your listing and actually click it.
The Tradie Take
CTR is how many people walk through your door compared to how many walk past. If your shop window is dirty and your sign is hard to read, people walk past. Polish that window (your title and description) and more people walk in. Google notices and puts you on a busier street.
Definition
Click-through rate (CTR) measures how often people who see your search result or ad actually click on it. If 100 people see your Google listing and 5 click, your CTR is 5%. A high CTR means your title and description are compelling. Google also uses CTR as a signal - if people click your result but not others, Google moves you up.
How It Works
- 1 CTR = clicks divided by impressions (times 100 for percentage)
- 2 A high CTR tells Google your result is relevant to searchers
- 3 Better titles, descriptions, and schema markup (star ratings, prices) improve CTR
- 4 Higher CTR can improve your rankings even without changing your site content
Tips for Tradies
- Write titles and descriptions that make people want to click - include your unique selling point
- Add star ratings to your search results with review schema markup
- Test different titles and descriptions - small changes can boost CTR significantly
