A/B Testing

Comparing two versions of something to see which one works better.

💡

The Tradie Take

Like putting two different signs on your ute - one says "Call Now" and the other says "Free Quote." Drive around for a week and see which number gets more calls. Then paint that on all your vans.

Definition

A/B testing is when you show two versions of an ad, email, or webpage to see which one gets more calls or bookings. It takes the guesswork out of marketing. Instead of wondering if "Call Now" works better than "Get a Free Quote," you test both and let the results tell you.

How It Works

  • 1 Create two versions - change one thing like the headline, button text, or image
  • 2 Show version A to half your audience and version B to the other half
  • 3 Wait until you have enough data to see a clear winner
  • 4 Go with whatever performs better, then test something else

Tips for Tradies

  • Only change ONE thing at a time or you won't know what made the difference
  • Don't call it too early - you need enough traffic for a reliable result
  • Test the big stuff first: headlines and calls-to-action move the needle most
