Meta Description
The short blurb under your page title in Google search results.
The Tradie Take
Your meta description is the 10-second pitch you'd give someone at a BBQ when they ask what you do. You don't have time for your whole life story. You need: "Emergency plumber in Bondi. Same-day service, no call-out fee. Call now." Short, punchy, tells them exactly why they should pick you.
Definition
A meta description is a brief summary (155-160 characters) that appears under your page title in search results. It's not a direct ranking factor, but it hugely impacts whether people click your result. Think of it as a mini-ad for your page. A good meta description includes your keyword, your unique selling point, and a call to action.
How It Works
- 1 Google often displays the meta description in search results below the title
- 2 A compelling description increases click-through rate (CTR)
- 3 Higher CTR can indirectly boost rankings
- 4 If you don't set one, Google may pull random text from your page
Tips for Tradies
- Include your main keyword and a unique benefit
- Add a call to action: "Call now," "Book today," "Get a free quote"
- Keep it under 160 characters - Google truncates longer ones
